Enigmatic Paintings by Catherine Ryan
Well, mysterious might be a better way of describing Catherine Ryan’s thought-provoking artworks. Her paintings distinguish themselves from anything I’ve seen in the anonymity of the individuals portrayed, but also in the pattern and color clashes she creates.
Her particular style of painting might be difficult to assimilate on the first try but, in my opinion, that’s what makes it all the more capturing. Each piece of hers raises all sorts of questions in my mind, concerning the people and the situations, but mostly at which point between reality and the surreal did these images originate from.
