Becoming Wilderness is a photography project by Scandinavian duo Inka Lindergård and Niclas Holmström (a.k.a Inka & Niclas).

“Integral to their practice is the wish to consider what it is in a sunset over an ocean or the view of a mountain range that is so emotionally spellbinding and continues to fill us with awe? What is it that drives us to go out there and collect these images over and over again? And what mystical auras create the sense of awe and wonder that colours our understanding of nature? Inka & Niclas´s practice evolves around an exploration of the different components that constitutes the powerful psychological effects of different natural phenomena and landscapes.“

Brea Souders:

“Composed from discarded film, static electricity and strong light, the photographs in this series are tapestries of my personal history. They contain slices of forgotten adventures, portraits of loved ones and strangers, untold experiments and family vacations, as well as shards of unrecognizable shapes and empty spaces–memories alongside their absence. Together, the charged fragments merge in energy and light to create a new narrative.

The images are created with shredded negatives from my archive attached to electrically charged sheets of acetate. Where the static force is strong, slices of film hold to the acetate. Where it is weak, they fall away. The acetate is then photographed using a flash, which reflects and creates streaks of white. This obscures some images while bringing others into relief. The reflected light also forms the photographs’ luminous internal frame. As appropriate to this process, the images’ final form exudes an element of playfulness and relies on the spirit of chance.”

Rosanna Jones distorts and tampers with her photographs, creating strangely beautiful and/or disturbing images:

“I love creating and capturing a beautiful moment, whether that be involving people or places, and then, in a way, destroying the innocence and aesthetic beauty of the image. Scratching away, or bleaching photographs is a way that I can relate to my images on a higher level; each scratch, tear or bleach mark symbolises how both society and the human mind have the power to destroy even the most beautiful of people or moments.”
